Off Frontage Road Exit I-10
Returning from our trip to the Desert Lily Sanctuary on 3/15/19, we stopped by Shaver's Valley off Frontage Road on the I-10. Well before we approached the Frontage Road exit we saw a fire in the distance and couldn't pinpoint its source or location at the time, but got more info from an article I came across about it the day after. This 564-acre fire started near Lincoln St. at Ave. 68, fueled by mulch piles, tamarisk trees and desert brush. As it was late in the day we only spent about 45 minutes there. Lots of Brittlebush (Encelia farinosa) and Arizona Lupine (Lupinus arizonicus) carpeting the landscape in hues of yellow and purple. Also added another lifer to my list: Pygmy Cedar (Peucephyllum schottii)!
